10 tips to prepare for the Summer Bush Fire season
This is not a comprehensive list by any means but is a starting guide to help identify things you can do around your house.
Clean the gutters of your roof.
Mow and remove any long grass.
Clean under your house - If possible enclose so sparks can’t get in.
Tidy up the wood pile.
Ensure roof is firmly fixed and if tiles has fire retardant insulation.
Direct relief value on LPG tank away from house.
Install gate value to water tanks (38mm Storz coupling).
Develop and maintain your garden so it is free of limbs, mulch etc but also has paths and paving which can help establish a fire break. Remember though, don’t plant all your trees and shrubs in a row towards your house – Space them out a little.
Install metal fly wire or solid screens to spark proof windows, doors, ventilators and sky lights.
Store flammable fuels and chemical away from the house and secure in an enclosed shed.
