Machinery Breakdown Insurance

Depending on your particular business you may have a high exposure to Machinery Breakdown, and the financial consequences of equipment breakdown.

This insurance covers the repair costs following the breakdown of an insured piece of machinery.  Some costs are excluded such as gases, and valves.

Typically the types of equipment that businesses seek cover for are;

  • Air Conditioning plant
  • Refrigeration/Freezer equipment including coolrooms
  • Dairy Vats
  • Manufacturing Equipment
  • Printing Equipment

Apart from the actual breakdown, the policy can be extended to include cover for;

-          Deterioration of stock following breakdown, eg Coolroom containing ice cream breaks down and the ice cream is ruined.

-          Loss of Profits, eg a specific piece of plant that is critical in production breaks down, and parts may need to be brought in from overseas.  In this instance the repairs may take some time, and during that time your production and income will be interrupted.

-          Increase Cost of Working, similar to Loss of Profits, you may need to hire a replacement piece of machinery or outsource that part of your production whilst your own equipment is being repaired.  In this case those costs can be covered.
