Home & Contents Insurance

There are two types of cover available for home and contents, a Defined Events Policy or an Accidental Damage Policy.

Defined Events Policy

In a defined events policy the insurer will list the events that they will provide cover for, typically these include Fire, Storm, Burglary, Impact, Glass Breakage, Earthquake, Malicious Damage, and Lightning.

The cover provided is the same for both the building and your contents, and is most suitable for those seeking a basic cover with cover limited to the listed events happening at your home address.

Accidental Damage Policy

This policy provides a far greater level of cover than the defined events policy.  Rather than specifying the events covered it works by covering accidental loss or damage not otherwise excluded.  It also has benefits for loss or damage to your contents occurring away from your home.  Some examples of cover provided by the Accidental Damage policy that would not be covered under a defined events policy are;

  • Spilling red wine on your lounge
  • Plasma TV falling off the wall
  • Losing jewellery whilst on holidays
  • Sitting on your prescription glasses

  • Cover for identity theft/fraud
  • Cover for expenses incurred in a undergoing personal tax audit for the tax office

As your home and contents are generally the most valuable assets you will own, our preference for our clients is to obtain the superior accidental damage cover.
